Who is Jason Cundy and has he had a hair transplant?

Jason Cundy is a former professional footballer, with spells at Chelsea and Spurs defining his career. Since retiring after an injury, Jason Cundy has found a new career as a presenter and pundit — and on his Talkspot radio show The Sports Bar, Jason Cundy revealed his plans to get a hair transplant at the Wimpole Clinic.

Talking about his imminent procedure, Jason said:

“I’m starting to feel a little bit anxious about the procedure tomorrow. I’m having a hair transplant at the Wimpole Clinic in Harley Street. The whole thing is about nine hours-ish from start to finish. Maybe longer with my forehead. There’s a lot of advertising space up there.”

Jason has also revealed that this isn’t a spur of the moment decision — he’s actually been thinking about it for some time:

“I’ve been kind of toying with it over the last decade. I’m not a million miles away from my 60th birthday. If not now, when?”

Jason Cundy’s hair transplant: all the details

Jason’s hair transplant took place on 26th March 2026 at our award-winning hair transplant clinic on Harley Street, in London. Dr Ahmad Moussa led the procedure, supported by a team of highly qualified technicians.

Jason Cundy opted for an FUE procedure, which is the least invasive (and most popular) hair transplant technique in the world [1]. It involves surgically extracting individual clusters of follicles from the back of the scalp and implanting them in the thinning areas.

To achieve a natural hairline, Jason Cundy has had 3,000 grafts harvested and implanted around his hairline, temples, and mid-scalp. A 3,000 graft hair transplant is a fairly large procedure — this is around the maximum number of grafts we’ll normally extract in a single session.

While it’s bound to be a few months before Jason Cundy’s hair transplant results become visible, we’ll provide regular updates on his hair transplant recovery progress.

Jason Cundy’s hair loss: before and after

Reactions from fellow pundits were mixed when Jason revealed his plans to have a hair transplant (although they were all in jest). Gabby Agbonlahor said his own hair transplant plans had been shot down, with a clinic apparently telling him “you’ve got more chance of getting hair out of a bald egg.”

Ally McCoist, meanwhile, gave his full support, saying:

“Go for it mate. This is serious stuff and I wish you all the very very best. And I’m gonna tell you something mate, I’m gonna be monitoring the situation very very closely. Do you know why? I’m gonna tell you why. See the old penalty spot up there Jase? If yours is of satisfaction and looks fine, I’ll be thinking about the penalty spot.”

So how did Jason get here? Let’s take a look at how his hairline started versus its current condition.

Jason Cundy’s hair: 1991 vs 2026

Like most men, Jason had a full head of hair into his early 20s. Seen here in 1991 (on the left), his hairline was straight and full at the age of 22-23:

Unfortunately Jason went on to develop male pattern baldness, with his hairline thinning considerably throughout his 20s. Since then, it seems to have mostly stabilised, whether due to finasteride, minoxidil, or just getting older. It’s very natural for a mature hairline to be higher and more uneven than when you’re young.

Not all men with male pattern baldness progress to the latter stages of the Norwood Scale — it depends on your genes. Just prior to his hair transplant, Jason’s hair was around stage 3-4 on the Norwood Scale:

Hair transplants are very successful, with the best clinics offering success rates of more than 97%. So we’re excited to see how Jason’s hairline looks in a few months, when the initial recovery period is over and his new grafts start to kick in.

Other Wimpole Clinic hair restoration success stories

Jason Cundy joins thousands of other men who’ve had their hair successfully restored at the Wimpole Clinic, including many athletes and celebrities. Earlier in 2026, comedian Lloyd Griffith revealed his hair transplant at the Wimpole Clinic, saying:

“When I saw [my hair transplant] for the first time, I got emotional. I got emotional because I was bald. But to see there’s a hairline there now… I look very different. I’m absolutely pumped.

“It was great, Wimpole Clinic were absolutely fantastic. The care was great, they explained everything. I know obviously people can go abroad but this was just easier. It’s like 15 minutes down the road from me, language barrier obviously non-existent, and yeah, it was great. Anything I needed, I just let them know, and they’ve given me fantastic aftercare. Matt, who has been looking after me, has already texted me to ask if I got home alright.”

England cricket captain Ben Stokes also had a hair transplant at the Wimpole Clinic:

“Don’t underestimate [a hair transplant] — when you have this done, it’s insane. If someone who knew you before says it looks good, you’re buzzing.”

And Jason Cundy isn’t the only footballer to have selected the Wimpole Clinic for his hair transplant — Rob Holding and Danny Ings have both had their hair restored by our world-class surgical teams, too.

Many footballers have confirmed their hair transplant procedures, from Wayne Rooney to Rob Holding. Others have kept their surgeries under wraps. Here’s a round-up of players rumoured or known to have had hair transplant surgery:

This hair transplant at the Wimpole Clinic is Jason Cundy’s first surgical hair restoration procedure. People with stable hair loss (like Jason) are less likely to need additional procedures in future, though it’s still possible he’ll seek a top-up transplant at some point.

Jason Cundy had an FUE procedure, which is the most popular type of transplant technique in the world. FUE is less invasive and leaves less scarring than FUT, which is why it’s favoured by the majority of patients.

While Jason Cundy shaved his head for the procedure, this isn’t always necessary. It’s possible to have unshaven FUE, in which most of the hair is left intact — so once the scabs fall off, your hair transplant is almost completely undetectable.
